This age-old monastery, also named Monastery of the Couto was declared National Artistic Historical Monument in 1972. Located in the Jacobean route of the English Camino, it marks the point of departure of the Camino de San Andres de Teixido. Its history and constructive development are linked to important events in the history of Galicia, witnessing times of great splendour and becoming one of the most important monasteries in Spain in the twelfth century.
